CCPHA supports community advocates in promoting local policy reforms. We train local residents in how to work toward having healthier foods in their neighborhoods and we mobilize teams of community members to educate policy makers—including school boards—on issues of children’s health.


GRASSROOTS PROJECTS

Healthy Eating, Active Living Campaign for California Cities (HEAL) CCPHA, with the League of California Cities and the Cities, Counties, Schools Partnership, is working to promote city policies that increase access to healthy food and improve physical activity environments. Read more...

Healthy Eating, Active Communities (HEAC) CCPHA is one of six California nonprofit organizations participating in HEAC, a four-year strategic initiative funded by The California Endowment to reduce childhood obesity and diabetes through improved food and physical activity environments for school-aged children in low-income neighborhoods. CCPHA is working in Baldwin Park, one of six communities participating in HEAC. Read more...

Work with the California Nutrition Network (2005 – 2006) CCPHA provided technical assistance and training to the Regional Nutrition Networks and Regional Collaboratives of the California Nutrition Network for Healthy, Active Families (Network). The training and technical assistance, which was linked to nutrition education, taught food stamp clients how they can work to increase access to healthier foods in their neighborhoods. Read more...
Grassroots Campaign (1998-2004) Through our Grassroots Nutrition and Physical Activity Campaign, teams of local residents— health professionals, lay people, and young people—in six state legislative districts in Los Angeles County educated legislators and other community leaders about the importance of nutrition and fitness for children and adolescents.
